TD promo worked to a lighting plot sent by Carreras‘ LD and 16 Robe ROBIN MMX Spot moving lights were a key element of the show, for which lighting was operated by  TD Promo’s Matěj Mantlík.

The MMXs were rigged in the grid above the stage on four 18 metre long trusses, flown at 10 metres. The power and punch of the MMXs was ideal for dealing with the high trim height and making effects and creating a great atmosphere for the event, which was completely sold out as people got into a festive mood.

Apart from creating a fabulous ambience, the MMXs were also used to light a large starcloth backdrop upstage of the orchestra in a variety of colours and texturing, adding depth and some theatrical and optical ‘magic’.

TD Promo has a quantity of Robe fixtures in their rental stock including the original XT Series – still going strong after all these years – and also the workhorse ColorSpot 1200 series. They have found Robe products to be reliable, well-built and they just keep on going – all ideal attributes for any busy hire company servicing a variety of projects.

The MMXs were chosen from a number of options. Apart from the array of features offered, he specifically wanted a silent running fixture for the Carreras show, as sections of the set are so gentle and soft that you could hear a pin drop in the room!

“We really like the high output, light weight and small size of the MMX,” says Matěj adding that they also think the dual graphics wheel is very cool and that the fixture has additional functionality not found on any competitor product. This makes it even more flexible and usable for any application or event.

The low power consumption is another consideration. Apart from the green aspects of this – and every little helps when it comes to using less energy to create a great show – in many venues, power is limited.
